On Saturday, December 2nd, the Toronto Eagles Australian Football Club celebrated their annual club awards. This season was a vast improvement over 2016, with the success of a premiership and many were excited to celebrate the top performers for the year.

The night’s top honour, the 2017 Troy Marsh Club Champion, was awarded to midfielder Dean Gavin who had an exceptional season for the Eagles. Gavin was a clear winner finishing with 42 votes, 28 clear of the nearest vote getter.

The evening started with a presentation to all the clubs valued sponsors and contributors True Milestone Inc and TNT Therapy N Training. The club appreciates all that they do to help us every year.

The first award to be presented for the evening was the 2016 Coaches awards. This award is presented to a player which the coaching staff feels has had a solid season and is a valued member of the club. This year’s honour went to defender, Sean Westerhuis. Westerhuis, who join the club this year, had a great first season with the Eagles and was a standout in this years grand final, winning the leagues Best on Ground.

The 2016 Cooler cup award was next. Presented to the player who consumes the most alcohol during the season and is the life of the party, this was one of the most contested awards of the night with many this Eagles eligible. This year’s winner was club favorite Jack Born, who had spent many a game day, evening and weekend working hard for the honour.

This year’s goal kicking award went to player/coach Aaron Falcioni, who kicked 52 goals for the season. Defender of the year went to Bad Harding, who was a solid contributor all season and has really found his place in the backline.

The 2017 Mark Block Clubman award, which is voted on the night, went club stalwart Matthew Lowden who was honored to receive the award from his peers.

The 2017 Rising Star award went to first year player Sean Fahey, who had a fantastic season in the backline. Fahey has shown rapid improvement over the course of the season and is definitely one to watch in the coming years.
