The Toronto Eagles returned to the winners’ list in emphatic fashion with a dominant 10.8 (68) to 3.5 (23) win over the Grand River Gargoyles in #AFLORd3 of the 2025 AFL Ontario season. After a close contest last week, the Eagles came out with intent, delivering a four-quarter performance that showed both polish and hunger.

Fast Start, Strong Finish

Playing away at Margaret Green Park in Guelph, the Eagles adjusted well to breezy conditions and a spirited Gargoyles side. A disciplined backline, smart ball movement, and composed decision-making helped Toronto control the tempo from the outset and break the game open by the second half.

The experienced forward line of Jay Himat Aaron Falcioni, Salv Capoferri, Garrett Reynolds and last year’s Best and Fairest, Kevin Minaker was also instrumental in providing forward pressure throughout the game.

“The group really responded this week,” said Head Coach Aaron Falcioni post-match. “We focused on effort and discipline all week, and the boys delivered. It was great to see us stick to our structures, especially in the tougher patches early.”

It was also an exciting outing for two of the club’s rising rookies, Dylan Wilson and Ben Ziegler, who impressed with their composure, effort, and team-first footy. Both players brought energy and toughness to the contest, showing they’re quickly adapting to senior footy and ready to make a mark in the Eagles’ colours.

Key Performances

Braedy Walker – One of the day’s standout performers, Walker’s pressure, clearance work, and drive through the midfield set the tone early and helped the Eagles control the contest.

Jay Himat – Continued his outstanding form up forward from last year, hitting the scoreboard and keeping defenders under pressure all game.

Kevin Minaker – Showed his class again with key goals and a strong forward-50 presence. His ability to read the ball in the air was a difference-maker.

Final Thoughts

The Round 3 win was a statement from the Eagles, a solid team performance driven by accountability, effort, and execution. With multiple contributors across every line and positive signs from both veterans and new faces, the group is clearly trending upward.

“It was a real team win,” said Captain Ryan McNabb after the game. “Everyone played their role and lifted when it counted. You can feel the belief growing week to week – we’re building something special here.”

The Eagles now turn their focus to Round 4, where they’ll take on the Hamilton Wildcats at Humber South. With confidence building and momentum behind them, the squad will be eager to put together another strong performance on home turf.
