Toronto Eagles 2.4 (16) defeated by Ottawa Swans 6.4 (40)
Date/Location: Saturday, September 6, 2025 – Manotick Polo Field

The Toronto Eagles’ 2025 season came to an end in the nation’s capital, as they went down to the Swans in a hard-fought Elimination Final at the Manotick Polo Field. The match was an arm-wrestle for three quarters, with the Eagles rallying in the third term to cut the deficit to just two points.

Coach Aaron Falcioni praised the group’s determination in what he described as a “grind from the first bounce,” highlighting how proud he was of the team’s resilience and willingness to fight for each other despite fading late. “To get back within two points in the third quarter showed the fight and resilience we’ve built this season. Unfortunately, we just ran out of legs in the last 10 minutes, and sometimes, that’s all it takes.”

Turning Points

The match began evenly, with both sides trading territory and opportunities but struggling to convert early chances. By halftime, the Swans had nudged ahead by less than a goal, setting up a tense second half.

The third quarter was Toronto’s best spell of the contest. Ruckman Dillon Doherty took control of stoppages, while the defense repelled repeated Ottawa entries. The Eagles’ lift in intensity was clear, and a late push reduced the margin to just two points at the final break.

Captain Ryan McNabb pointed to this stretch as the defining moment of the contest. “Our backline was under pressure all game, and I thought the defense stood tall. The midfield battled hard to stay in the contest, and when we lifted in the third quarter, we showed what we’re capable of. It was a great team effort, even if the result didn’t go our way.”

But the effort took its toll. Ottawa’s run and pressure began to overwhelm the Eagles in the last 10 minutes, and a couple of quick goals, built a match-winning lead that Toronto could not bridge.

Key Performances

  • Dillon Doherty (Ruck): best performance for the club, strong in the ruck and around the field.

  • Kerim Karacic (Defense) solid in defense, cutting off key Ottawa attacks.

  • Eagles defense: resilient across all four quarters, holding Ottawa’s scoring power in check for much of the game.

  • Team effort: despite being undermanned, the group fought until the final siren.

Final Thoughts

While the scoreboard read in Ottawa’s favour, the Eagles’ performance reflected the growth and grit that defined their 2025 campaign. Club president Salv Capoferri emphasized that the season was about more than just results. “We welcomed new faces into the club, saw huge growth from our younger players, and strengthened our culture both on and off the field. While we would have loved to go further in the finals, I’m incredibly proud of what this group has achieved. The way we fought today sums up the spirit of the Eagles, committed, hardworking, and never giving in. It’s something to build on heading into next year.”

The Eagles leave the 2025 season with plenty to be proud of, a squad that fought through challenges, unearthed new talent, and showed they belong on the finals stage. With strong leaders, developing players, and a clear identity, the foundations are set for a promising 2026.
