Eagles Battle Hard Against Rebels in Competitive Round 11 Battle

The Toronto Eagles faced one of their toughest challenges of the regular season in Round 11, taking on the Toronto Rebels at Humber South in a game that remained competitive right through to the final siren.

The Rebels came out strongly and controlled much of the opening quarter, putting the Eagles under pressure early and building an advantage on the scoreboard. Rather than letting the early deficit dictate the rest of the afternoon, however, the Eagles responded and gradually worked its way back into the contest.

From the second quarter onward, the game became much more evenly matched. The Eagles continued to battle, competed hard around the ground and refused to let the Rebels run away with the contest. Ultimately, the Rebels were able to hold on and finish with a 10.11 (71) to 5.4 (34) victory.

While the final margin was 37 points, the Eagles’ ability to fight back after the opening quarter and remain competitive for the rest of the afternoon provided plenty of positives heading into the final game of the regular season.

Key Players and Highlights

Jake Maher once again proved to be one of the Eagles’ most dangerous attacking players.

Maher finished with three goals and continued the excellent form he has shown throughout the 2026 season. He remained a reliable target inside 50, competing hard in the air and on the ground while constantly looking to create opportunities for the Eagles.

His three goals made up the majority of Eagle’s scoring output and once again demonstrated just how important he has become to their forward structure.

One of the biggest positives from the afternoon was the first appearance of Justin Harris in Eagles colours.

Harris wasted little time making an impression, finishing with two goals and providing another dangerous option inside the forward line.

In a game where scoring opportunities were limited, his ability to contribute two majors on debut was particularly encouraging. The Eagles now have another forward option to work with as the season heads toward finals.

Ryan Thibeault and Evan Thibeault both produced strong performances throughout the afternoon.

The brothers worked hard across the ground, competing for the football and helping the Eagles maintain pressure during the periods where they began to wrestle control back from the Rebels.

Their effort and willingness to keep working throughout the contest were important as the Eagles fought their way back into the game after a difficult opening quarter.

Luis González was another standout for the Eagles, producing a strong defensive performance against a dangerous Rebels attack.

With the Rebels applying plenty of pressure early, González and the defensive group were repeatedly called upon to repel attacks and win important contests.

The Eagles’ defensive effort improved as the match progressed, helping keep the Rebels from completely breaking the game open.

Game Flow

The Rebels started the game on the front foot.

From the opening bounce, they were able to control territory and create pressure inside their forward half. The Eagles struggled to find their rhythm early, while the Rebels made the most of their opportunities to establish a lead.

The first quarter belonged clearly to the Rebels, leaving the Eagles with some work to do heading into the second term.

“We knew we didn’t start the way we wanted,” said John O’Connor. “The important thing was that we didn’t let the first quarter define the rest of the game.”

The response from Eagles was much stronger.

They began winning more contests around the ground and finding better options with the ball. The defensive group settled, while the midfield started to generate more opportunities for the forwards.

Maher began to have a greater influence inside 50, and the Eagles were able to put more scoreboard pressure on the Rebels.

Justin Harris also made his presence felt.

Playing his first game for the Eagles, Harris looked comfortable inside the forward line and quickly found his way onto the scoreboard.

“Chippa was great for us,” said Coach, Aaron Falcioni. “To come into his first game and kick two goals against the Rebels is a fantastic. He’s given us another option up there.”

The second and third quarters developed into a much more even contest. Neither side was able to completely dominate, with both teams trading periods of possession and territory.

By the final quarter, the Eagles were still competing hard, but the early deficit proved difficult to overcome.

The Rebels were able to maintain enough scoreboard separation to secure the win, eventually finishing 10.11 (71) to 5.4 (34).

“We fought our way back into it after that first quarter,” said Jake Maher. “We would have liked to finish the job, but there were definitely positives in the way we responded and competed for the rest of the game.”

The result wasn’t what the Eagles wanted, but the way the team fought back and remained competitive for the majority of the afternoon showed plenty of character.

Looking Forward

The Eagles now enter the final game of the regular season with everything pointing toward another important matchup at Humber South.

Round 12 will see them face the Toronto Dingos for the second time this season, giving the Eagles a chance to finish the regular season on a high before turning their attention to finals.

The Dingos are a familiar opponent, and the Eagles will know exactly what kind of challenge awaits. Their previous meeting with the Dingos was a seven-point thriller, with the Eagles eventually coming away with a hard-earned 7.10 (52) to 7.3 (45 victory).

That close contest should provide plenty of confidence, but it also serves as a reminder that the Dingos are capable of pushing the Eagles for four quarters.

The final regular-season game will be about more than simply getting the four points. It will be an opportunity for the Eagles to fine-tune their game heading into finals and build confidence across all areas of the ground.

Most importantly, the Eagles need to use Round 12 as preparation for what comes next. Finals.

After a long regular season filled with road trips, close games, dominant performances, new players, injuries, and plenty of development, the Eagles are now entering the most important part of the campaign.

The goal will be to finish the regular season strongly, build momentum, and make sure the team is playing its best football when the finals arrive.

The Eagles have already shown they can win comfortably, grind out close victories, and compete with the best teams in the competition. The next challenge is putting all of those lessons together when the pressure is at its highest.

The regular season is almost done. One more game at Humber South, one more chance to build momentum, and then it’s time for finals football.
