THE TORONTO EAGLES have started their 2010 season campaign with an impressive win over rival, the Etobicoke Kangaroos, in a replay of last year’s OAFL grand final. The Eagles had control of the game from the first bounce, working harder and making sure they played a solid four quarters of football to take out a 52 point win.

“This was a great way for the club to start the season” stated Eagles President Salvatore Capoferri, who also played his 50th game for the club. “To play a good brand of football and defeat a quality side, it put us on the right path. It was also nice to have a win for my club milestone.”

The Kangaroos, who have had some major changes with personnel in the off season, couldn’t keep up with the harder running Eagles side. After a tightly contested first quarter, the Kangaroos found it hard to put points on the board scoring only two goals for the entire match.

“We really shut them down” stated Eagles defender Sean Kennedy “The defense held firm through out the entire match and made sure that their better players couldn’t receive the ball.”

The third quarter saw the Eagles really start to pull away with a three goal to one quarter. Smooth passages of football from the center were littered throughout the quarter and really showed why the Eagles are such a well drilled team. The fourth quarter was a very one sided affair, which saw the Eagles run away with the game after kicking another three goals and holding the Kangaroos to one point.

“I was very happy with the team’s performance today” Coach Aaron Falcioni stated. “We have been working pretty hard in the pre-season and came into the game with a plan to play good football for all four quarters”.

Last year’s OAFL best and fairest, Ajit Alsiter, had a great season opener dominating the center taps and contributing with a goal. Veteran Mark Peterson was also inspirational, deifying the age barrier and kicking four goals for the match. Over all everyone played their part for the team and the result showed in the final score. This week the Toronto Eagles will travel for round two when they face the Ottawa Swans at Rideau Carleton Raceway in Ottawa.
